FAQs

What is CryoPen cryotherapy and what can it treat?

CryoPen cryotherapy is a precise medical cryotherapy treatment used to remove benign skin lesions by freezing them with a fine jet of nitrous oxide. I use it to treat lesions such as skin tags, age spots, seborrhoeic keratoses, and some warts.

The treatment works by freezing the targeted tissue, causing the lesion to dry up and shed naturally over the following days to weeks. It allows me to treat the lesion without damaging surrounding healthy skin.

Is CryoPen safe and will it leave a scar?

When used correctly on suitable benign lesions, CryoPen is very safe. I always assess your lesion carefully before treatment to make sure it is appropriate for cryotherapy. If there is any doubt about the nature of a lesion, I will not treat it and will instead advise medical review.

There is a small risk of temporary lightening or darkening of the skin in the treated area, and a small risk of scarring, particularly in certain skin types or body areas. I’ll always talk you through realistic risks before treatment so you can make an informed decision.

What does the treatment feel like and what is the downtime?

The treatment feels like a brief cold sting or sharp sensation that lasts a few seconds. Most patients find it very tolerable. Afterwards, the area may feel sore for a short period and may blister or scab as part of the normal healing process.

Downtime is minimal, but I advise keeping the area clean and avoiding picking or trauma while it heals. I’ll provide clear aftercare instructions and guidance on what’s normal during healing.

How long does it take to heal and will I need more than one treatment?

Healing usually takes 1-4 weeks depending on the size and type of lesion. Some lesions resolve fully after one treatment, while others may need a second session for complete clearance. I’ll advise you honestly about what to expect for your specific lesion.
